What is a Storyboard?

A storyboard is format of documenting your ideas for a film or clip in a more creative way usually created or thought up by the director. What I mean by this is that it helps you visualise your ideas and show and explain to others to possibly develop your idea. It is also a helpful planning technique to keep track of progress and start in order for a shoot. It is very helpful to see your ideas drawn our so that you can change a camera angle or content in frame if you don’t like it before the actual shoot. Most companies pay an artist to do it for them as it is much easier to visualise and also it will capture all the detail you will need for a professional storyboard. Every storyboard should start out with a written out shot list as a guide.

When making a storyboard its important to remember that you will need:

               - the shot number to stay in order and organised

               - Location to plan where you will need to be on the shot days

               - Action for context in what will happen in each specific shot

               - Shot/movement so you know where and how to place the camera to capture this(important for camera                          composition)

               - Sound to guide what will be heated in this shot

               - Lighting for setting the mood/atmosphere and to reference what lights are needed

               - Transitions for the editing team to know some direction

               - Timing for how long each shot will be
