Sayombhu Mukdeeprom
The Thai DOP Sayombhu Mukdeeprom best known for his work of Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria and Happy Birthday has worked very loyally and often with both Apichatpong Weerasethakul “Joe” and Luca Guadugnino and applying their themes while thoughrilly keeping his style in it root and infused in every form, this style being the romance and beauty in naturalism. Mukdeeprom first started making films with Joe with their first film ‘mysterious object at noon’ and when filming with joe his realist style carries through and their vision is the same in that hence why they went on to make so many beautiful movies together that were based in a fantasy but familiar like world, also when filming with Weerasethakul he would often use 16mm film. When filming with Luca Guadugnino he likes to use the 35mm and mostly shot with one lens when filming ‘CMBYN’ he also, and this counts for all his films not just call me by your name, tries to use natural light apart from ver very few lights correctly placed to carry the realist environment that always surrounds his work. Mukdeeprom’s philosophy is very important when applied to his work as he says “My principle is that I cooperate with people, I let things happen, I go by the environment” which is desmonstained as as he work he mixes and response to the environment they are using once again adding to the realism while also staying in harmony with your surroundings. When framing his work in often pus the audience in the position of the observer, that is what Mukdeeprom is trying to achieve when in comes to the audience's point of view, when he is filming he also always likes to use the arri system for the camera and for the lens it comes down to Cooke and Zeiss. Mukdeeprom has experienced both film and digital and he found that he prefers film as digital doesn't resonate with him, it is purely personal preference.
