This is the official planning we have done for the test shoot containing what we will need and why this is relevant and important.
Planning our test shoot
the purpose of this test shot is to essentially run through the ideas we as a group have and figure out what works and what we like and can move forward with and what doesn’t work and what we should change. This test shot in no way has to be professional as we are just seeing how shots and objects will work with our current idea. This preparation shot will not only help us with our preparation for the final outcome shoot but also will help us when it comes to what to expect on ‘set’ or when filming as we need an idea of what would be accessible and useful and what needs to be done so everything goes ideally smoothly.
The planning that we did before hand consisted of what props we would use and some replacements that we would use as a lot of the props we want to use we should only confirm when we can see the idea with them the replacements we ended using were:
Rope - we used no rope as we couldn’t get a hold of a material we wanted in time and we can visualise it just fine with the actions of hands being ‘tied together’ without them actually being tied together
Mask - Purge mask as we wanted the face of the villain to be disorienting while still causing panic
Blood - ketchup + water - we could find a good substitute instead and there is basically no difference on the floor we are using for the shoot so it will not be noticeably fake
We also planned the location of the basement hallway (Hurtwood House) as we couldn’t get the hold of a shipping container that we could fill inside but we found that the hallway we found was a good replacement as it had the same effect we were going for which is dark, empty and eerie. we also planned who we would use for the filming on the test shoot, this being a student we find on the day (male) and Elias (a boy in our group) as we just needed the figures of them both to get an idea of what it would look like and how we want the body type/ages to be to convey the right feel we are going for, this way we can see what works and what who we will need for the day. we also planned to use Raffies camera through the method of trial and error as he had the best quality out of our group, this helps us as we all have an understanding about how big our frame is and what we will be working with in the test shoot day.
Overall the shoot went well as we moved forward with our ideas and found quick ways around anything that didn’t work therefore developing our idea, such as finding the right way around filming the right footage for the security camera without it being awkward. A few things that could have gone better was the amount of footage that we got so basically the amount of time we had as we could have shot more but we only did what was necessary so not giving the full image that would be formed with more footage of the location or of the man being hurt or of the small details that help with the plot.
